We are delighted to announce the launch of SOLUCIR, a major innovation HORIZON Europe project designed to accelerate the deployment and uptake of circular and decentralised water management solutions across Europe.
UWMH is proud to coordinate this impactful initiative, which is funded under the call Circular economy and bioeconomy sectors (HORIZON-CL6-2024-CIRCBIO-02).
SOLUCIR is grounded in the ambition to catalyse the large-scale adoption of circular and decentralised water solutions. The project aims to demonstrate the flexibility, scalability, and benefits of these approaches, positioning decentralised systems not only as alternatives but also as resilient upgrades to existing centralized water systems.
The project’s vision extends globally, aiming to address barriers for widespread adoption, foster public engagement, and ensure that results are relevant and transferable to developing countries and emerging economies, supporting UN Sustainable Development Goals. SOLUCIR also considers the pivotal role decentralised solutions can play in post-disaster and post-war reconstruction efforts (e.g., in Ukraine), providing flexible and adaptable solutions for faster service recovery.
To realize its ambitions, SOLUCIR unites a strategic alliance of top universities, advanced research institutions, forward-looking water utilities, and key experts in socioeconomics, business, and innovation, blending cutting-edge knowledge with practical experience to generate tangible impacts.
The project kicks off on January 1, 2026 and its activities will extend for the next four years.
