IMPETUS final General Assembly in Athens

After 4 years of collective work, the IMPETUS final General Assembly meeting was held from 17th to 19th of June in Athens, organized by UWMH of NTUA. More than 60 participants from all 32 partner organisations across 9 European countries gathered at the welcoming premises of the Eugenides Foundation for three days full of engaging interactions, meaningful live discussions, and constructive feedback on the final stages of the IMPETUS project.

The event concluded with a visit to the emblematic Sewer Mining pilot site in the Municipality of Markopoulo. Project partners were warmly welcomed by municipal representatives and participated in an informative and interactive tour of the facility.

The first day was dedicated to the seven real-life demonstration cases (DS) developed across Europe. Each demo site presented its journey, key results, and lessons learned during dedicated sessions, followed by panel discussions and a vibrant poster session. These exchanges allowed partners to explore the impact of local innovations and share knowledge across the consortium, reflecting on the implementation of 31 technological and non-technological solutions developed within the project.

The second day focused on integration across governance, innovation, and communication activities, and next steps. Partners reflected on KPI monitoring, the implementation of Action Plans, and the functionality of key tools such as the Resilience Knowledge Booster (RKB). Discussions revolved around governance assessments, innovation package structures, and feedback for final deliverables.

On the last day participants visited the Sewer Mining pilot in the Municipality of Markopoulo, one of the flagship demo cases led by NTUA. This innovative installation delivers high-quality reclaimed water directly at the point of demand, primarily for the irrigation of parks and public green spaces. Highlighted as a scalable solution for tackling water scarcity and advancing climate resilience, the pilot unit also exemplifies circular economy practices in urban water management.

The system operates fully autonomously, powered by solar panels, and is surrounded by sustainable infrastructure such as an amphitheatre, artificial lake, and eco-conscious fencing constructed from recycled materials like wood, clay, and straw—showcasing the project's holistic commitment to sustainability.

Over the course of its implementation, IMPETUS engaged stakeholders across Europe through 500 events, fostering dialogue, feedback, and co-creation at every stage of the process.
