IMPETUS Sewer Mining Demonstration event in Municipality of Markopoulo

Οn 11th of December, the UWMH group and EYDAP, in collaboration with the Municipality of Markopoulo, hosted the Final Public Event of the Climate Impetus project at the newly established Decentralized Water Recovery System in Markopoulo. The facility showcases the innovative Sewer Mining technology developed within the framework of Climate Impetus.

We are especially proud to celebrate both the successful completion of the project and the implementation of a pioneering technological solution which, following the principles of bioclimatic design and the circular economy:

    • recovers clean water exactly where it is needed,
    • achieves energy autonomy through solar power,
    • integrates digital twin technology for remote monitoring and control, and
    • produces nutrient-rich irrigation water that supports and enhances urban green spaces.

Our goal is to help protect the city from the impacts of climate change, improve neighbourhood microclimates, and reduce the increasingly frequent episodes of urban overheating.

Alongside the project contributors — Prof. Christos Makropoulos and Dr. Klio Monokrousou from NTUA, our colleagues from EYDAP and the Municipality of Markopoulo, and the project’s architectural engineer, Mrs. Maria Petinaki — the event welcomed representatives of the State, Members of Parliament, Mayors, officials of the Region of Attica and local government, institutional bodies, research organizations, members of the business and industrial community, as well as media.

Warm congratulations to everyone involved for this shared achievement!
